"Able was I ere I saw Elba."

Some friends from the program and I took a trip to the island of Elba this past weekend. It’s the island that Napoleon was exiled to and then basically took over in the nine months he was there. But we went to Elba for a much less sophisticated reason than to learn historical facts about the island - we went to the beach!!

It was such a nice little vacation and definitely turned into quite an adventure. We had booked rooms in a place that didn’t exist, we missed our bus (the final bus to leave the station), and we had to take a train completely out of the way on our return home from Elba through Pisa due to a train strike in Florence. Overall, it was so worth it and the most beautiful water I have ever swam in! Also, it was so fun to really get to know everyone I will be so close to this semester (we only have 14 people in our entire program) and I was very happy to discover that I really like everyone here!

These are some photos I took on the island. There was a concert going on on our beach which we watched for a while from the back. The band did some covers of english songs we all knew. It was a lot of fun!

Also, I would like to say that there are many things I like more here in Italy than in the States like milk & cheese. It’s interesting how much better the milk tastes here to me! I just love it. And I’ve never been a fan of soda but they use real sugar here, much better. Just something to think about...

We went on a wine tasting and a tour of an excavation site today and yesterday so I’ll probably be adding those photos next.
