Yesterday I wandered into this art store and bought some watercolors and twist-up crayons. Then, I sat down in the middle of my tiled living room floor and painted and colored a million things. Best purchase of Italy so far.
Also, I recently read this article by Martha Nussbaum entitled "Skills for Life" which is fantastic. But has made me feel increasingly alarmed about education and how the arts are always the first to go during funding cuts. I tried to link that to this blog but it didn't work. I have a copy in my email if anyone would like it.
On a different note, the popular thing for Italians to do when they say goodbye on their cell-phone is to not only say, "Ciao." But to say "Ciao,ciao,ciao,ciao,c-ciao,ciao,ciao..." endlessly like an echo. At first I thought it was only a strange thing one person did. Then I thought it was just a coincidence that I had heard more than one person do that. But no, I now realize that is the most popular way to say goodbye and even though it makes no sense everyone is doing it.
