Buddhism, Tea, Books, and Haircuts

Last night I gathered in a home with a group of Italian Buddhists. I woke up this morning and my roommate offered me some South African Brush Tea. Oh multicultural experiences!

I was invited to the Buddhist meeting because my friend Kelsey’s host mom participates in the group. I had so much fun. I have even been invited back to the weekly gatherings. And I meet a new best friend. Her name is Mina. She is a cat.

The Brush tea I drank is full of anti-oxidants and therefore very trendy. Cool.

I’ve been told never go to the hair stylists here because they are crazy. Apparently, when you tell one what you’d like them to do they completely ignore you and do whatever they want. They give you a “new look”. That’s just how it works here. On the first day of class my Italian professor was the first to explain this. She specifically told me to bring her along if I ever want to cut my hair because my long hair would not survive those stylists.

In order to fix this we created a salon in our apartment with a stylist who listens to your requests. As in, my roommate Leza cuts all of our friends’ hair in our bathroom. She cut my hair today. She did a perfect job, it looks the same but is no longer dead. Mollie, our other roommate was a little wilder than me and decided to get bangs. They look so great.

And here was the view outside the bathroom as we had our escapade inside:

I’ve been having the best time because I have no literature classes right now (except Dante’s) so I can read whatever I want. And I’ve been getting the best book recommendations. Right now I’m reading a collection of short stories called “Naked” by David Sedaris. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much at a book. I recommend it.

  2. Thank you so much! I've had some pretty great language arts teachers... haha, but really. And happy Thanksgiving to you also! I'm sure I'll see you and your family in about a month around Christmastime!
